AC/DC rhythm guitarist Malcolm Young died at the age of 64 on 18 November, three years after stepping down from the band with dementia. His older brother George, one of the Easybeats and part of a renowned writing and production partnership with Harry Vanda, died in October. Although many saw brother Angus as the focal point of AC/DC, former bass player Mark Evans says Malcolm was the band’s "behind the scenes guy". George, Malcolm and Angus Young were estimated by "BRW" in 2013 as having a combined wealth of $A255 million.
