Meanwhile, new data shows that CPI growth in the June quarter was below expectations at 1.9 per cent, although growth in core inflation was in line with forecasts at 1.8 per cent. Shadow treasurer Chris Bowen says the Australian Labor Party will still allow people to use trust structures if it wins the next federal election. However, Labor will crack down on the use of trusts as vehicles to reduce tax liabilities, although there are concerns that its measures could mainly affect users of trusts such as farmers and small businesses. Treasurer Scott Morrison says there are many legitimate reasons for using a trust.

Original article by David Rogers
The Australian Financial Review – Page: 19 & 27 : 26-Jul-17

The Australian dollar has gained 3.5 per cent so far in July, and it remains close to a two-year high. The currency has risen by about 10 per cent in the year to date, and its trade-weighted index has risen by five per cent. The Australian dollar has benefited from factors such as a downturn in the value of its US counterpart and growing speculation that the Reserve Bank will increase interest rates in 2018. Greg Gibbs of Amplifying Global FX Capital says a further sharp fall in the value of the US dollar is possible given the US economic outlook.
