‘Plenty of life’ in the gold dog yet

The share prices of Australian gold producers have rallied in the last year, prompting speculation as to whether the gains are sustainable. Saracen Mineral Holdings MD Raleigh Finlayson has indicated that a fall in the gold price could create buying opportunities for the group, while Doray Minerals is seeking offshore acquisitions due to the high price of local gold assets and the dearth of quality projects up for sale. The outlook for the gold sector will be under scrutiny at the annual Diggers & Dealers conference in Western Australia.

Cheese if you please (preferably with crackers or wine)

Original article by Roy Morgan Research
Market Research Update – Page: Online : 29-Jul-16

A Roy Morgan Single Source survey has found that 63.9 per cent of Australian grocery buyers aged 18+ purchased block cheese in an average four weeks during the year to March 2016. Meanwhile, 36.9 per cent bought grated/shredded cheese, 37.5 per cent bought sliced cheese, 15.4 per cent bought creamed cheese or cheese spreads, and 9.8 per cent purchased cheese snacks or portions. All of these figures are considerably lower than they were in 2012. However, some consumers are dramatically more likely than the average grocery buyer to purchase cheese in an average four-week period. Two striking examples are those shoppers who also buy savoury biscuits/crackers in this time, and those who purchase wine in any given seven-day period.

Scott Morrison, Peter Dutton and Mathias Cormann are among the ministers who opposed nominating Rudd, although Foreign Minister Julie Bishop supports his nomination. The Australian sharemarket currently boasts a forward price-earnings ratio of 16.6 times, but some market watchers expect that the August 2016 reporting season will justify the high earnings multiple. Tony Brennan of Citigroup is upbeat about the reporting season, saying the positive earnings surprises are likely to outweigh the negative surprises. The benchmark S&P/ASX 200 closed at 5556.6 on 27 July, although Brennan expects it to end the year at about 5,500. However, he forecasts that it will rise to 5,750 by mid-2017.
