Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull says the Coalition is a united team and is committed to implementing its economic plan. In his last major speech of the election campaign, Turnbull identified tax cuts for employees and small businesses as the Coalition’s top priority if it is re-elected. Industrial relations will also be a priority, including legislation to reinstate the Australian Building & Construction Commission. Turnbull also emphasised that a strong economy is essential for the delivery of government services such as healthcare and education.

ANZ-Roy Morgan Australian Consumer Confidence remains upbeat despite ‘Brexit’ jitters – now at 116.8

Market Research Update – Page: Online : 28-Jun-16

ANZ-Roy Morgan Australian Consumer Confidence fell 1.9 per cent to 116.8 in the week ending 26 June 2016, only partially offsetting the rise the previous week. Despite the turmoil in global financial markets – driven by the surprise result in the UK referendum – households remain optimistic about their finances and the economic outlook. Last week’s easing in confidence was largely driven by a deterioration in consumers’ views towards the economic outlook. The indicator on "finances compared to a year ago" fell 2.3 per cent, and views towards "economic conditions in the next 12 months" fell nine per cent.

Tennis viewers a valuable audience for advertisers

Original article by Roy Morgan Research
Market Research Update – Page: Online : 28-Jun-16

A Roy Morgan Single Source survey has found that 34.3 per cent of Australians aged 14+ watch tennis on television occasionally or almost always. They are slightly more inclined than the average Australian to "find TV advertising interesting" (21.6 per cent vs 19.7 per cent) and less inclined to agree that "Nearly all TV advertising annoys me" (65.9 per cent vs 68.1 per cent). More than three-quarters of them watch Wimbledon broadcaster Channel 7 (and its affiliates) in an average seven days, well above the population average of 67.6 per cent. Meanwhile, the 1,025,000 million Australians (or 15.2 per cent of total tennis viewers) who play tennis themselves as well as watching it on TV, are not only more tolerant towards TV advertising than those who simply watch it on the box, but more likely to have cash to splash.

Atlas shares closed at $A0.09 on 28 June 2016.

‘US has Trump, you’ve got me’: Hanson ready to rock the boat

Original article by Michael McKenna
The Australian – Page: 7 : 29-Jun-16

One Nation Leader Pauline Hanson has identified immigration and foreign investment as her key priorities if she is elected to the Senate on 2 July 2016. Hanson is confident of winning a Queensland seat in the Senate, and some public opinion polls suggest that she will be elected to the upper house two decades after she first made her present felt in the nation’s parliament. Hanson is critical of Coalition policies such as the national broadband network and the construction of a new submarine fleet, while she has reservations about the proposed company tax cuts.

Coalition fuels Brexit sentiment: Shorten

Original article by Phillip Coorey
The Australian Financial Review – Page: 4 : 29-Jun-16

Federal Opposition Leader Bill Shorten gave a speech at the National Press Club on 28 June 2016. He warned that the Coalition’s policies will lead to the social discontent that has led to the UK’s vote to leave the European Union and the popularity of US presidential candidate Donald Trump. In particular, Shorten noted the Coalition’s plan to progressively scale back the company tax rate while reducing funding for health, education and welfare services. He added that the political and economic lesson from "Brexit" must not be ignored.

Brexit may prompt RBA to lean towards cash-rate cut

Original article by Jacob Greber
The Australian Financial Review – Page: 1 & 6 : 29-Jun-16

Financial markets have priced in a 24 per cent chance that the Reserve Bank of Australia will reduce the cash rate in July 2016, compared with just 12 per cent prior to the "Brexit" referendum. However, the odds of a rate cut in August have increased from 44 per cent to 76 per cent since the UK voted to leave the European Union. Some economists expect the RBA to leave rates on hold in July but adopt an easing bias in its monetary policy statement. The central bank has not had an easing bias since the last rate cut in May.
