OzTAM will officially launch its new digital TV ratings system in early February 2016. It will measure the number of people who view TV content online and via portable devices. The launch of the Video Player Measurement system has coincided with a decline in the amount of time people spent watching traditional broadcast TV. The Australian Multi-Screen Report shows that this fell from an average of about three hour per day to just two hours and 49 minutes in the December 2014 quarter.

There will be no exemptions from the product disclosure "dashboard" rules that are designed to allow investors to compare the performance and fees of superannuation funds. Industry Super Australia stated on 28 January 2016 that exemptions from the disclosure rules would apply to about 72 per cent of choice of fund products. However, Assistant Treasurer Kelly O’Dwyer says all funds will have to comply with the new rules.

The survey shows that all older age groups are now more likely to drive than their younger counterparts. Australian Roy Morgan Business Confidence continues to drift lower in January

Original article by Roy Morgan Research
Market Research Update – Page: Online : 29-Jan-16

A Roy Morgan Business Single Source survey has found that Australian business confidence fell by 3.9 points to 110.6 in January 2016, following a decline of 4.2 points in December and 0.6 points in November. The combined drop of 8.7 points (down 7.3 per cent) over the last three months is an indication that the initial increase in confidence following Malcolm Turnbull becoming Prime Minister has been outweighed by the negative local and international economic environment, which saw the ASX decline by 8.6 per cent in the first three weeks of January. Despite the negative trend in business confidence over the last three months, it is still 7.8 per cent above the level prior to the appointment of Turnbull. Business confidence is now below the five-year average of 116.8 and is a sign that confidence is very fragile and easily impacted by negative economic events.

Some analysts do not expect Charter Hall Group to be significantly affected if co-founder David Southon vacates the role of MD, which he shares with David Harrison. The two executives have been joint MD since 2004, and they are also joint CFO of the Australian-listed property group. While Charter Hall has yet to confirm that Southon will step down, it is believed that he will do so when the group releases its 2015-16 interim financial results in February 2016.

Terms of trade slump mires budget outlook

Original article by Jacob Greber
The Australian Financial Review – Page: 3 : 29-Jan-16

The Australian Government’s mid-year budget update in December 2015 had forecast a 10.5 per cent decline in the nation’s terms of trade in 2015-16. However, the latest trade data has prompted analysts to estimate that the terms of trade declined by between 4.5 per cent and 5.2 per cent in the December 2015 quarter. The downturn in the prices of key export commodities have hit the terms of trade, which may in turn significantly impact on government revenue.
