Potential takeover target Gascoyne Resources has appointed Macquarie as its adviser to help it defend any unwanted bids. Gascoyne’s main asset is the 1.3 million ounce Dalgaranga gold project in Western Australia, but Gascoyne has encountered issues with its processing plant and lower-than-expected grades from some pits, while the company has been the subject of management instability in recent times, with the resignation of both MD Mike Dunbar and chairman Ian Murray. Gascoyne advised on 24 December that it expected Dalgaranga to produce between 92,000 and 102,000 ounces of gold in calendar 2019.

36,000 home hangover for Melbourne market: SQM Research

Original article by Nathan Mawby
news.com.au – Page: Online : 9-Jan-19

SQM Research has reported that there were over 36,000 homes still up for sale in Melbourne at the end of 2018. This represents an increase of 25 per cent when compared to the end of 2017, when around 29,000 homes were on the market. SQM Research head Louis Christopher says the increase in unsold homes shows that sellers are not prepared to accept "low-ball" offers for their homes. He says that quite a number of vendors have withdrawn their homes from the market altogether, and that these sellers would put their houses back on the market in 2019.

Pete Bosilkovski, the joint CEO of advertising agency VMLY&R, has described as "brilliant" the decision by Nine to have two females co-hosting "Today". Bosilkovski says it will be the chemistry between Deborah Knight and Georgie Gardner that will determine how successful Nine’s decision is. The revamp of "Today" follows the axing of Karl Stefanovic as co-host in December after 14 years in the role, while it is the first time that two women have co-hosted an Australian TV breakfast show.

Wind turbine supplier Vestas Australia enjoyed a record year for orders in 2018, with over one gigawatt of wind turbines ordered in total. Peter Cowling, the head of Vestas Australia, predicts that the renewable energy sector will "muddle through" the lack of federal policy on climate and energy, due to the desire by companies to purchase clean power and the "cost competiveness" of solar and wind energy. Cowling says state governments’ renewable energy programs are helping to make up for a lack of federal policy.

The Construction, Forestry, Maritime, Mining & Energy Union is seeking a 10 per cent pay rise for labour-hire workers at a New South Wales coal mine. The workers at Wongawilli Colliery, who are paid significantly less than workers at other mines in the region, will commence a seven-day strike. CAS Mine Services has warned that the proposed pay rise is not financially viable. The CFMMEU’s national president Tony Maher says the poor treatment of labour-hire workers will be a key issue at the upcoming federal election.
