Bega Cheese has increased its stake in Capilano Honey to 8.4 per cent, after having secured an initial shareholding in the week ending 31 August. Capilano is currently the subject of a takeover bid from private equity groups Wattle Hill and ROC Partners, whose $20.06 per share offer values Capilano at more than $190 million. Bega executive chairman Barry Irwin states he is not perturbed by reports that Capilano may unknowingly be selling "fake honey". Irwin says Bega has not made any decisions about making a bid for Capilano itself.

Labor to prefer progress over blunt school report cards

Original article by Rebecca Urban
The Australian – Page: 5 : 7-Sep-18

Labor education spokeswoman Tanya Plibersek said on 6 September that Australia’s school system is in general a high-performing one, but that there was always room for improvement. Plibersek said that if Labor wins the next election that it will introduce an assessment system that focuses on progress rather than achievement, which was one of the main recommendations of the Gonski review into education excellence. Another recommendation that Labor plans to adopt is an increased focus in the curriculum on capabilities such as problem-solving and creativity.

If you love your country, love each other, says PM

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has called for an end to the "politics of envy" in a speech to Liberal Party members in Albury, which is regarded as the party’s birthplace. Morrison noted that "we all love Australia", but he questioned whether "we love all Australians". Morrison used the speech as an opportunity to outline some of his views, including a belief that some people should not be taxed more in order that others are taxed less. His speech did not contain any new policy announcements.

Border wars: Dutton hits back

Original article by Rosie Lewis
The Australian – Page: 1 & 4 : 7-Sep-18

Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton has accused his one-time Queensland Police Force colleague Roman Quaedvlieg of providing false evidence to a Senate inquiry. The Labor-led inquiry is investigating Dutton’s role in the granting of visas to two au pairs. Dutton appointed Quaedvlieg as Australia’s first ever Border Force Commissioner, but Quaedvlieg was dismissed from that role in March for misbehaviour. Quaedvlieg is being investigated about his misconduct, and Dutton suggested it might partly be the pressure of this investigation that caused him to give false evidence to the inquiry.
