It is alleged that the man threatened staff in a pharmacy with a knife, demanding cash and drugs. Setback for Rinehart in dispute over royalties

A court decision will reduce iron ore royalties for Hancock Prospecting and Wright Prospecting by $A80 million. The companies wanted $A200 million from Rio Tinto, in a dispute stemming from royalty agreements made in the 1960s with Hamersley Iron, now a subsidiary of Rio Tinto. Part of Rio’s appeal was dismissed, but the court found that the joint venture Hanright was not entitled to royalties from the Channar agreement

The man is charged with assault occasioning death, following the death of a man on 7 May 2014. New laws, introduced in January, impose a minimum jail term of eight years for the offence. In November 2013, a radiologist was found guilty of improper conduct when she failed to stop to provide assistance to a person who was injured in a car accident. She drove to the nearest police station to report the accident. She argued, unsuccessfully, that she did not feel safe to stop at night in an unsafe area

Road contract invalid if councils win court case
