Legislation rolled out in New South Wales in 2013 and set to come into effect in Victoria in 2016 prevents enrolment in child care for those who lack crucial vaccinations. However, an exemption can be gained by conscientious objectors on religious grounds, and the Australian Vaccination Skeptics Network is now encouraging parents to join the so-called Church of Conscious Living in order to circumvent the ban. The organisation was only founded in 2006 and is neither registered as a church nor charity with the Australian Charities & Not-for-profits Commission

Top businesswomen back subsidised childcare

Original article by Nassim Khadem
The Australian Financial Review – Page: : 23-Jul-14

The Productivity Commission has issued a review of the child care system, arguing against tax deductions and also wanting funds to be reallocated from the paid parental leave scheme pushed by Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott. The tax deductions are however being called for by leading businesswomen, partly as this would allow for the hiring of nannies. Assistant Minister for Education Sussan Ley says the option is being considered, and it is also backed by the union movement. Sexual Discrimination Commissioner Elizabeth Broderick however favours direct subsidies

The liquidators of ABC Learning Centres have reached an in-principle settlement with a syndicate of banks. The compromise was reached just before the case against the lenders was to be heard in the Federal Court of Australia. Bentham IMF was meant to argue that the banks "jumped the creditors’ queue". Child care facilities operator ABC Learning Centres collapsed in November 2008, with debts of $A1.6 billion
