CAPA-Centre for Aviation chairman Peter Harbison says the coronavirus will have a major impact on the global aviation sector if it is not contained quickly. He warns that if the virus outbreak becomes a pandemic, it will have the biggest impact on aviation since the global financial crisis. The International Air Transport Association estimates that the coronavirus will reduce the earnings of Asia-Pacific airlines by $US27.8bn in 2020.

Air New Zealand reveals plans to fight threat from Qantas

Air New Zealand is stepping up plans to fight back against a rejuvenated Qantas. It will increase domestic capacity in New Zealand, where Jetstar is to introduce regional turboprop flights, and target Australian customers for its services to North and South America. Air New Zealand will boost long-haul capacity by 15 per cent in 2015-16.

Smelly passengers despised

A survey of air travellers has found that smelly passengers are high on the list of problems. AirlineRatings.com surveyed more tban 1,550 travellers in 2014. Nearly 35 per cent felt that the worst passengers were those who reclined their seats, while 25.5 per cent felt that smelly passengers were the worst.
