The Western Australian Government may face legal action over allegations that it infringed a software developer’s intellectual property. Paul Holliday invested $A140,000 in the development of iKoast, an app that warns users about shark sightings on the state’s coast. The app was launched in March 2014, and Holliday claims that the Government’s Sharksmart website is based on his app

Luke Sayers, CEO in Australia for global accounting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), has announced a new alliance with web search engine services group Google. The latter’s enterprise MD in Australia, Kevin Ackhurst, notes that while both entities are still free to strike deals with the respective partner’s rivals as well, in some areas there will be an exclusive arrangement. The aim of the new collaboration is to offer consulting services to businesses affected by digital disruption. PwC will also resell and install Google’s Apps for Work suite of office software products

Bendigo ‘redy’ to pay through smartwatches

Bendigo & Adelaide Bank has launched a new mobile payments network that is dubbed "redy" and can be used with a Samsung smartwatch and smartphone. The technology was developed by the regional bank’s Community Telco subsidiary. The redy system uses QR codes to verify transactions, while customers also receive an online token for each redy transaction, which can be converted into cash that can be spent or donated to charity

Connexion Media aims to raise between $A3 million and $A6 million, before listing on 24 July 2014. The company owns the Miroamer internet radio application, one of two selected by General Motors for use in web-enabled vehicles in Europe and the US. Former Toyota Australia chairman John Conomos will become chairman of the Connexion. He said that car component makers need to become part of the global supply chains of the major automobile makers
