Defence Minister Marise Payne has confirmed that China will be sending a frigate to take part in Exercise Kakadu in September. Exercise Kakadu are a major series of war games that the Australian navy holds every second year. It will be the first time that China has taken part in Exercise Kakadu, with its participation coming despite the current poor state of relations between Australia and China. Payne says it is unlikely that China will be taking part in any live-fire drills as part of its involvement in Exercise Kakadu, which will be held off the coast of Darwin.
