A Roy Morgan Single Source survey has found that 46 per cent of Australian families would like to holiday in Queensland in the next two years. The survey, which was carried out in the year to December 2014, also shows that 45 per cent of Australian families favour Victoria as a domestic holiday destination, followed by New South Wales (43 per cent). Meanwhile, 25 per cent of families would like to visit Melbourne, while 14 per cent favour holidaying in Sydney

A Roy Morgan Single Source survey has found that the number of Australians who practise yoga either regularly or occasionally has more than doubled from 910,000 to 1,836,000 in the last decade. The survey, which was carried out between January 2013 and December 2014, shows that Australians who practise yoga are almost 150 per cent more likely than the average Australian aged 14+ to want to go to India on holiday. Yoga-practising Australians are also 142 per cent more likely than the average Australian to visit domestic destinations such as the Mt Buffalo, Mt Baw Baw and Lake Mountain region

A Roy Morgan Single Source survey has found that 36 per cent of Australians aged 14+ whose last long holiday was domestic chose to stay at the homes of friends or relatives. The survey, which was carried out in the year to December 2014, also shows that 21 per cent opted for paid accommodation such as fully self-contained rental flats, apartments or houses, while 11 per cent stayed at four-star hotels or resorts. In contrast, 33 per cent of Australian holiday-goers whose last long trip was in Asia chose to stay at either four-star hotels or resorts, while 28 per cent opted for standard hotels/motels or resorts

A Roy Morgan Single Source survey has found that 18 per cent of Australians aged 14+ visited at least one art gallery or museum on their last holiday. The survey, which was carried out in the two years to October 2014, also shows that 36 per cent of Australians who went overseas for their last holiday visited at least one art galley or museum. Some 75 per cent who travelled to Europe for their last holiday visited an art gallery or museum. Meanwhile, 14 per cent of Australians whose last holiday was domestic visited at least one museum or art gallery

Holiday hoarders need a break

Expedia has released a report which shows that many Australian workers do not use their entire annual leave entitlement each year. It found that 11 per cent of Australians failed to take any leave in 2014, while they have an average of five days of unused leave each year. Expedia’s Georg Ruebensal notes that many Australians opt for domestic holidays of about three days’ duration, or overseas destinations that are close to Australia

A Roy Morgan Single Source survey has found that in the year to September 2014, some 12.8 per cent of Australians aged 14+ agreed that they would like to holiday in New Zealand at some point in the next two years. This compares with 13.9 per cent in the six months to September 2010. In contrast, the number of Australians who would like to holiday in the US has risen from 15.2 per cent to 18 per cent over the same period

A Roy Morgan Single Source survey has found that 4,715,000 Australians took an overseas holiday in the year to June 2014. Some 47 per cent used a conventionial bricks-and-mortar travel agent, while 16 per cent booked their holiday via an online-only agency. In contrast, 71 per cent of Australians booked an overseas holiday via a bricks-and-mortar travel agent in the year to June 2007, while just six per cent used an online-only agency
