Leightons fraud inspires whistleblowing app

Whistleblowing is as simple as filling in an online questionnaire with Fraudsec, the idea of a technology start-up founded by Sylvain Mansotte, the key whistleblower in a fraud case at Leighton Contractors in 2013. His system, which allows a whistleblower to anonymously create a report and attach files, is being trialled by several major organisations. The New South Wales Department of Education has also made inquiries about modifying it to combat bullying in schools.

Westpac banks on cloud push to rein in costs

Westpac anticipates significant cost savings from a proposal to shift many of its IT systems to a hybrid cloud environment. Chief information officer Dave Curran says the banking major aims to capitalise on the efficiencies that can be derived from shifting to cloud technology. Westpac also aims to reduce its cost-to-income ratio, which rose from 41.6 per cent to 42.5 per cent in the first half of 2014-15.

Oakton adds depth to Dimension

Todd Guyot of Moelis & Company says the proposed merger between Dimension Data Australia (DDA) and the listed Oakton is a good deal for both companies. DDA will pay $A1.90 per share, valuing Oakton at $A171m. DDA CEO Rodd Cunico says there are unlikely to be any job cuts as a result of the merger, which will creat a technology company with some 3,600 employees
