The New South Wales (NSW) Director of Public Prosecutions has brought charges against ex-minister and Australian Labor Party identity Eddie Obeid, as recommended by the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC). It found he had exerted undue influence on party colleagues Eric Roozendaal, Carl Scully and Joe Tripodi as well as the Maritime Authority of NSW’s Stephen Dunn, to secure licenses for restaurants at Circular Quay in Sydney. ICAC has also gained corruption charges against ex-Labor minister Ian Macdonald, though not Obeid, in the case involving the granting of coal mining permits

Former Ryde City Council mayor Ivan Petch wants the Supreme Court of New South Wales to overturn an Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) ruling that he engaged in corrupt conduct. Amongst other things, ICAC found that he tried to improperly influence the council’s former manager and deliberately disclosed confidential information. Petch was suspended from the city council in mid-2014

The New South Wales (NSW) Independent Commission Against Corruption in 2013 ruled against five businessmen involved in the Cascade Coal scandal. The Supreme Court has now rejected appeals against the corruption findings that were launched by Travers Duncan, John McGuigan, John Atkinson and Richard Poole. However it did overturn the ruling against John Kinghorn, who had sat on the Cascade board from February 2009 to September 2013. The company had acquired and on-sold a mining lease that was improperly granted in 2008 by then mining minister Ian Macdonald to Australian Labor Party figure Eddie Obeid
