Subscribers who sign up to Foxtel’s new customer loyalty program will receive a range of exclusive offers. The Foxtel First loyalty scheme will reward customers based on the length of time they have been a subscriber. The launch of the customer loyalty program comes ahead of the impending entry of Disney+ and Apple TV+ into Australia’s streaming video market, where they will compete with established players such as Foxtel, Netflix and Stan.

Qantas goes after slice of frequent buyers’ credit card spending

Qantas has launched a new Titanium credit card that will be offered solely to customers whose annual income exceeds $200,000. Qantas Loyalty CEO Olivia Worth notes that the airline’s top 1000 loyalty scheme members generate most of their frequent flyer points from expenditure on goods and services rather than flights. Qantas’s customer loyalty partners include Woolworths, AustralianSuper and Red Energy.

How popular are customer loyalty programs really?

A Roy Morgan Single Source survey has found that 71 per cent of Australians aged 14+ are members of at least one store loyalty program. The survey, which was carried out in the six months to June 2016, also shows that 49 per cent of Australians are members of Woolworths Rewards, ahead of FlyBuys (45 per cent) and MyerOne (21 per cent). Meanwhile, 78.2 per cent of people who shop at Woolworths/Safeway in any given four weeks are members of the Woolworths Rewards program, as are 61.8 per cent of people who shop at Woolworths-owned BWS. Similarly, FlyBuys members comprise a resounding majority of Coles customers (69.2 per cent), as well as over half of all shoppers at FlyBuys partners Liquorland (61.0 per cent), Kmart (54.4 per cent), Target (54.3 per cent) and First Choice Liquor (53.6 per cent).

Woolworths tries third rejig of loyalty scheme

Australian-listed retailer Woolworths has again changed its customer loyalty scheme. This is the third modification of the scheme in 10 months. The company decided to reintroduce Qantas Frequent Flyer points in order to make the system more attractive to AB-demographic shoppers, who switched to other supermarkets when these points were removed from the scheme in 2015. Analysts have welcomed the changes to the scheme.

Foodland chief won’t play the loyalty card

South Australia-based supermarket group Foodland has 118 stores and intends to open another 20 over four years. It boasts about 32 per cent of the state’s grocery market, and will face new competition when Aldi’s first store in South Australia opens in early February 2016. Foodland CEO Con Sciacca expects Aldi to have a bigger impact on Coles and Woolworths, and he says Foodland has opted against introducing a loyalty program as a review found that they do nothing to increase customer loyalty.

Staying fit can earn you Qantas flyer points

Members of a new customer loyalty program will be rewarded for being physically active. Qantas has partnered with health insurer NIB Holdings to develop a new program, Qantas Assure, which will offer frequent flyer points to NIB customers. Members of the scheme will also receive extra points for meeting fitness targets which will be measured by wearable technology. The new scheme will be launched in the first half of 2016.

Woolies rewards to cost it $500m a year

Woolworths’ revamped customer loyalty scheme will reward shoppers for purchasing about 500 grocery items. The Australian Centre for Retail Studies estimates that it would take less than eight weeks for the average customer to cash in their credits for a $A10 reward. Michael Simotas of Deutsche Bank expects the new scheme to cost Woolworths around $A500 per year.
