Cbus CEO David Atkin has been accused of being likely involved in the leaking of confidential information to the construction industry union. Jeremy Stoljar, counsel assisting the Royal Commission into Trade Union Governance & Corruption, also stated in a submission to royal commissioner Dyson Heydon that the relationship of Cbus with the Construction, Forestry, Mining & Energy Union was problematic and characterised by "serious cultural problems."

Cbus advised to appoint more independents

An independent report has made recommendations aimed at improving corporate governance at the Cbus superannuation fund. They include appointing more independent directors, including an independent chairman. The report, which was produced by Graeme Samuel on behalf of Cbus, also recommends measures aimed at preventing scandals such as the leaking of members’ personal information to the Construction, Forestry, Mining & Energy Union in 2014.

A former employee of the Whitehouse Institute of Design has pleaded guilty to accessing restricted data. She leaked information about a $A60,000 "chairman’s scholarship" awarded to Prime Minister Tony Abbott’s daughter, Frances Abbott. A sentencing hearing took place on 23 October 2014. The woman will be sentenced on 25 November

The Royal Commission into Trade Union Governance & Corruption has been told by Cbus member co-ordinator Lisa Zanatta that she leaked account holders’ details to the Construction, Forestry, Mining & Energy Union. Like most other industry superannuation funds, Cbus has a board composed equally of employer association and trade union representatives. This arrangement has now been criticised by National Seniors CEO Michael O’Neill, who argues all super funds should have independent directors

Bribery allegations against former Leighton Holdings employees have been backed by leaked emails. The emails reveal that senior employees planned to make payments to gain work in Iraq. The payments would be disguised by inflating and backdating contracts. The Australian Federal Police will hand a brief on bribery in Iraq to the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions by early 2015
