The debut album of hip-hop artist Genesis Owusu has been named album of the year in the annual ARIA awards. ‘Smiling With No Teeth’ also took out the awards for best independent release, best hip-hop release and best cover art. Meanwhile, The Kid Laroi won the ARIA award for best pop release and best artist, while indie rock band Spacey Jane won the public-voted song of the year award. The ARIA awards were streamed on YouTube and 9Now, and held without a live audience for the second consecutive year.

Records galore as Toni tops ARIAs

Singer-songwriter Toni Watson has received eight nominations in the 2019 ARIA awards, including best female artist, breakthrough artist and best independent release. Watson’s ‘Dance Monkey’ has been Australia’s number one song for a record 10 consecutive weeks, while it has also topped the charts in countries such as Britain and France. The Teskey Brothers and Hilltop Hoods have been nominated for seven ARIAs.

Shark nets three on music’s night of nights

Singer-songwriter Amy Shark was among the big winners in the 32nd annual ARIA Awards on 28 November. Shark won three awards, including best female artist and album of the year, and she has now won six ARIA awards in total. Pop quartet 5 Seconds of Summer also won three ARIA awards, while the late Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu was named best male artist.

2018 ARIA Award Nominees & Early Winners Announced

Singer-songwriter Amy Shark has received nine nominations in the 2018 ARIA Awards, including Best Female Artist and Album of the Year. Meanwhile, Courtney Barnett has received eight nominations, while the late indigenous musician Gurrumul has been nominated for seven awards. Melbourne-based synthpop band Client Liaison has been nominated for two publicly-voted ARIA awards, in the categories of Best Video (for "Survival In The City") and Best Australian Live Act (for Expo Liaison).
