Comet Minerals announced in 2016 that it had detected a unique type of mineralisation at its Titan nickel project in Nigeria. Hugh Morgan, the former WMC Resources boss who heads up Comet Minerals, has told the recent Africa Down Under conference that another of his firms has developed a processing technique that will enable Comet Minerals to recover 100 per cent of nickel from the mineralisation at Titan. He said the technique has been successfully tested on gold and copper mineralisation, and that it does not involve any toxic reagents.

Comet Minerals, which is headed by mining industry veteran Hugh Morgan, revealed the company’s Titan nickel discovery in Nigeria at the 2016 Africa Down Under conference. Morgan says Comet has found an accurate method of assaying the content of the deposit’s unique nickel balls. This should enable Comet to determine an initial resource base for the deposit, given that the nickel balls vary significantly in size and density. Morgan says Comet will consider a range of options for funding the development of Titan.

Comet Minerals, which is headed by mining industry veteran Hugh Morgan, has confirmed a significant nickel discovery in Nigeria. Morgan says the Titan discovery comprises metal balls that are comprised of nickel metal rather than lateritic or sulphite nickel. The extent of the Titan mineralisation has yet to be determined, although tests show that the nickel content of the metal balls exceeds 90 per cent. Morgan adds that Comet may consider an IPO in the future, and is in discussions regarding funding for the Titan project.
