Eight men and a woman have been charged over burglaries on rural properties near Perth. A police operation was launched in late July 2014 focusing on criminals who were stealing vehicles and industrial machinery from rural properties to fund drug purchases. In some cases, the gang completely cleared properties. Raids on a number of properties recovered at least $A500,000 of stolen property

Death driver guilty of fourth police chase

Lindsay Nigel Calyun appeared in the Magistrates Court of Western Australia on 8 September 2014, where he pleaded guilty to reckless driving offences. The court was told that Calyun had tried to evade police at speeds of up to 120km/h in November 2013. He has previously been convicted three times over police pursuits, and served an eight-year jail term in 2000 after killing two people while driving a stolen car

Western Australian police are investigating the suspicious deaths of two people at a home in the Perth suburb of Yokine. The bodies of a man and a woman were found at the property on 7 September 2014. Meanwhile, 23-year-old Jason Stefanski has been charged with murder after allegedly killing his 68-year-old neighbour in Woodvale on the previous day

Catholic bishop on sex charge

Western Australian (WA) Police have charged the present Catholic Bishop of the Australian Defence Force with sexually abusing a minor in 1969. The offence allegedly occurred at St Benedict’s College in New Norcia. The Catholic Church Military Ordinariate of Australia has announced that the 68-year-old will stand aside while the case is being heard by the courts. The accused is the highest-ranking Catholic Church official to be charged with a child sex offence in Australia so far
