A multi-mode Morgan Poll on Federal voting intention has found that support for Australia’s ruling Liberal-National Coalition on a two-party preferred basis has fallen by 0.5 per cent to 56 per cent. The poll, which was carried out on the weekends of 7-8 and 14-15 November 2015, also shows that the Coalition’s primary vote has fallen by one per cent to 46 per cent, while the Roy Morgan Government Confidence Rating has risen by 7.5 points to 119.5 points. Roy Morgan Research executive chairman Gary Morgan says the strong lift in confidence around Australia gives the Turnbull Government the mandate to make the tough decisions about whether or not Australia should commit troops to any international coalition aimed at defeating the Islamic State (ISIS) and affiliated terrorist groups in Iraq and Syria over the next few months, as Western nations in particular seek to make the most effective and productive response to the horrific Paris terrorist attacks.

Former ACTU president Martin Ferguson believes that trade unions have too much influence over the Australian Labor Party. The former federal MP has criticised Labor’s resistance to changes to the industrial relations system. Australian Workers’ Union national secretary Scott McDine has dismissed Ferguson’s criticism as hypocritical. As chairman of Tourism Accommodation Australia, Ferguson represents the interests of employers in the tourism sector.

Loughnane’s exit the end for power trio

Original article by James Massola
The Age – Page: 8 : 9-Oct-15

Brian Loughnane stepped down as federal director of the Liberal Party of Australia on 8 October 2015, after 12 years in the role. Loughnane, former prime minister Tony Abbott and the latter’s ex-chief of staff Peta Credlin – who is married to Loughnane – became a powerful team in Canberra. Under their stewardship, the Liberals came close to ousting the Australian Labor Party government in 2010, before taking office in 2013. However, conflict of interest allegations plagued Loughnane and Credlin as the Liberal Party floundered under Abbott’s leadership.

Morgan Poll Update – Page: Online : 21-Sep-15

A multi-mode Morgan Poll on Federal voting intention has found that support for Australia’s ruling Liberal-National Coalition on a two-party preferred basis has risen by 12 per cent to 55 per cent. The poll, which was carried out on the weekend of 19-20 September 2015, also shows that the Coalition’s primary vote has risen by 11 per cent to 46 per cent, while the Roy Morgan Government Confidence Rating has risen by 17 points to 103 points. Roy Morgan Research executive chairman Gary Morgan says the positive response for Turnbull gives our new Prime Minister and his team a strong mandate to tackle the "cash economy" and the wage rorts that go hand-in-hand. The recent examples of 7-Eleven and United Petroleum show major industrial relations reforms are required to limit the "cash economy" – in particular tourism, retail and hospitality employees and tradesmen.
