Prime Minister Scott Morrison has identified a number of immediate priorities for the Coalition’s third term in office. They include the income tax cuts package, counter-terrorism legislation and fixing shortcomings in the National Disability Insurance Scheme. Morrison wants to reconvene federal parliament as quickly as possible, saying the election win has given the Coalition a mandate for its Budget reforms. He says the election result came down to the final week of campaigning. The Coalition currently has 75 seats in the lower house, one short of being able to form a majority government; five seats remain in doubt.

Original article by Joe Kelly
The Australian – Page: 9 : 17-May-19

Prime Minister Scott Morrison used his last major speech before the election to emphasise that voters want a government that they can trust and rely on. Addressing the National Press Club in Canberra, Morrison warned that Labor’s policies of increased taxes and government spending would stifle wages growth, dampen consumer confidence and impede economic growth. He said the Coalition’s policies will create 1.25 million jobs and 250,000 new small and medium enterprises.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison says greater regulation of social media platforms should be a top priority for the next G20 leaders’ meeting in the wake of the Christchurch mosque attack. Morrison has written to G20 chairman Shinzo Abe arguing that the internet should not be regarded as an ungoverned space, and technology companies should be more accountable for the objectionable content that is distributed via their digital platforms. Facebook removed some 1.5 million live-streamed videos from its platform during the first 24 hours after the attack.

Original article by Ben Packham, John Ferguson
The Australian – Page: 6 : 19-Mar-19

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has called for a more inclusive Australia, as well as attacking the dangers of tribalism. Speaking just days after the Christchurch mosque killings, Morrison said people on both sides of politics are seeking to distort public debate in order to divide Australians in the aftermath of the attacks. He said Australians should be allowed to express concerns about population growth without being labelled racist or anti-migrant, while opposition leader Bill Shorten said politicians should try to avoid point-scoring in the wake of the attacks.

Furious PM’s office threatens Ten over Waleed Aly’s emotional Christchurch plea

Original article by Samantha Maiden
The New Daily – Page: Online : 19-Mar-19

Sources at the Ten Network have confirmed that the office of Prime Minister Scott Morrison has complained about comments made by Waleed Aly on ‘The Project’ in the wake of the Christchurch mosque attacks. Aly did not mention Morrison by name in his editorial, in which he said a member of the Coalition’s shadow cabinet in 2010 suggested that the party should capitalise on anti-Muslim sentiment in the community. Aly then said the unnamed person is now Australia’s "most senior politician", a comment which prompted Morrison’s office to warn of the potential for defamation action.

The federal government has announced changes to the Liberal Party’s leadership rules that will prevent a prime minister from being challenged during their term in office. Prime Minister Scott Morrison says the government understands the frustration and disappointment of ordinary Australians when an elected prime minister is ousted in a partyroom ballot. Morrison sought the views of former prime ministers John Howard and Tony Abbott regarding the reforms, although his immediate predecessor Malcolm Turnbull was not consulted. Labor implemented similar reforms under Kevin Rudd in 2013.

Tensions between Prime Minister Scott Morrison and predecessor Malcolm Turnbull have increased in the wake of the latter’s recent visit to Indonesia. Morrison was forced to retract comments he made in a radio interview on 1 November; he said that Turnbull had not been asked to discuss trade and the possible relocation of Australia’s embassy in Israel during meetings with Indonesian officials, but Turnbull responded by stating that he had been asked to do so. Turnbull has also signalled that he will publicly defend his record as prime minister. Liberal Party of Victoria president Michael Kroger has called on Morrison and Turnbull to present a unified front.

Stokes rejects ABC: I didn’t plot to oust PM

Original article by Darren Davidson, Sam Buckingham-Jones

Seven West Media chairman Kerry Stokes has refuted suggestions that himself and fellow media magnate Rupert Murdoch had any role in the demise of former prime minister Malcolm Turnbull. The ABC has claimed in reports on its evening news bulletin and online that in the lead-up to the ousting of Turnbull, Murdoch told Stokes that Turnbull had to go. The reports were filed by the ABC’s national political editor, Andrew Probyn, who has previously worked for Seven West Media. Stokes says Probyn should therefore know that he does not engage in "speculative political gossip".

PM apologises for lack of action on banks

Original article by Michael Roddan, Elizabeth Redman
The Australian – Page: 2 : 13-Sep-18

Prime Minister Scott Morrison told question time on 12 September that he regretted not holding the banking royal commission sooner. He described as appalling the evidence concerning the treatment of Baptist minister Grant Stewart who had tried to get Freedom Insurance staff to cancel a useless life insurance policy sold to his Down Syndrome son, with one employee calling Stewart a "bloody whinger". Treasurer Josh Frydenberg was highly critical of the misconduct of life insurer ClearView, which has admitted to 300,000 alleged breaches of criminal law over the provision of unsolicited advice.
