Coalition’s budget gain disappears

Support for the federal Australian Labor Party on a two-party preferred basis has risen to 53 per cent in June 2015, according to a Fairfax/Ipsos poll. Labor’s primary vote has increased by two per cent to 37 per cent, while the Coalition’s primary vote is down three per cent at 40 per cent. Meanwhile, the approval rating of Prime Minister Tony Abbott is down two per cent at 40 per cent, while the rating of Opposition Leader Bill Shorten is steady at 41 per cent.

A multi-mode Morgan Poll on Federal voting intention has found that support for the Coalition on a two-party preferred basis has fallen by two per cent to 47 per cent. The poll, which was carried out on the weekends of 23-24 and 30-31 May 2015, also shows that the Coalition’s primary vote has risen by 0.5 per cent to 41 per cent, while the Roy Morgan Government Confidence Rating has risen by 0.5 points to 100 points. Roy Morgan Research executive chairman Gary Morgan says the only way for the Government to counter the slowing Australian economy is to undertake comprehensive reforms to increase productivity and "free-up" the labour market.

A special SMS Morgan Poll on State voting intention has found that support for the ruling New South Wales Coalition on a two-party preferred basis has risen by four per cent to 58.5 per cent since April 2015. The poll, which was carried out from 22-24 May, also shows that Premier Mike Baird’s rating as "Better Premier" has risen by 2.5 per cent to 70.5 per cent. In Victoria, support for the Australian Labor Party Government on a two-party preferred basis has risen by 2.5 per cent to 56.5 per cent, while Daniel Andrews’ rating as "Better Premier" has risen by 3.5 per cent to 68 per cent.

A Fairfax/Ipsos Poll shows that support for the Federal Coalition on a two-party preferred basis has risen from 46 per cent to 50 per cent since April 2015. Meanwhile, the Coalition’s primary vote has increased from 39 per cent to 43 per cent in the wake of the May 2015 Budget. The personal approval rating of Prime Minister Tony Abbott has risen by eight per cent to 42 per cent, and his rating as preferred prime minister is up six points at 44 per cent.

A special snap SMS Morgan Poll has found that 52 per cent of Australians say that Australians convicted of drug trafficking in another country and sentenced to death should be executed, which is unchanged since January 2015. The poll, which was carried out from 27 February-1 March, also shows that 53 per cent of Australians say convicted drug traffickers Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran should not be executed in Indonesia. A Fairfax/Ipsos poll, which was carried out from 26-28 February 2015, has found that support for the federal Coalition on a two-party preferred basis has risen to 49 per cent, compared with 51 per cent for the Australian Labor Party. The previous poll in January had Labor ahead 54 to 46 on a two-party preferred basis. The Coalition’s primary vote has increased from 38 per cent to 42 per cent, and Labor’s has fallen from 40 per cent to 36 per cent.
