A New Zealand Roy Morgan Poll on voting intention has found that support for the incumbent National Party has fallen by 0.5% to 42.5% in mid-August 2017. Support for the Labour Party has risen 2% to 32.5%, while support for a potential Labour/Greens alliance has fallen 2.5% to 41.5%. The Roy Morgan Government Confidence Rating has fallen 0.5pts to 139pts. Roy Morgan Research executive chairman Gary Morgan says new Labour Leader Jacinda Ardern stands a very real chance of toppling incumbent Prime Minister Bill English, but it will likely be with the support of Winston Peters and his New Zealand First party, whose recent increases in support make it ever more likely that Peters will get to decide who emerges as PM after next month’s election.

A New Zealand Roy Morgan Poll on voting intention has found that support for the ruling National Party has fallen by 0.5 per cent to 43 per cent in April 2017. Support for the Labour Party was unchanged at 29.5 per cent, while support for a potential Labour/Greens alliance has fallen by 1.5 per cent to 43 per cent. Support for New Zealand First rose three per cent to 10.5 per cent. Roy Morgan Research executive chairman Gary Morgan says that if NZ First maintains this level of support in the lead-up to the election later in 2017 it will win up to 14 seats in the new Parliament and party leader Winston Peters is likely to return to the Government benches for the first time since 2008.

A New Zealand Roy Morgan Poll on voting intention has found that support for the ruling National Party fell by 4.5% to 45% per cent in December 2016. The poll also shows that support for a potential Labour/Greens alliance has risen by 5.5% per cent to 43%, while the NZ Roy Morgan Government Confidence Rating has fallen by 10 points to 131 points. Roy Morgan Research executive chairman Gary Morgan says New Zealand ends 2016 with a new Prime Minister after former Finance Minister Bill English stepped into the top job following the shock resignation of John Key early in December, and New Zealanders can now look forward to a competitive election later in 2017. Key’s leadership had seemed to assure National of winning a fourth term next year. However, if the results of today’s Morgan Poll are repeated at the election it will be NZ First – 7.5% (down 0.5%) – that will get to determine who forms New Zealand’s next Government.

A special New Zealand Roy Morgan telephone survey, which was conducted in October 2016, shows that 40% of respondents (down 5% since July) identify Government/Public Policy/Housing issues as the most important problems facing New Zealand. Within this bundle of concerns, Housing affordability/Increasing house prices (17%) and Housing shortage/Homelessness (10%) are the most prominent. Meanwhile, 31% of New Zealanders identify Economic Issues as the most important problems facing the nation (down 1%). The survey also shows that 30% of New Zealanders regard War & Terrorism/Security issues/Refugee Crisis as the biggest problems facing the world (down 1%).

The poll also shows that support for a potential Labour/Greens alliance has fallen by 0.5% per cent to 37.5%, while the NZ Roy Morgan Government Confidence Rating has risen by 14.5 points to 141 points. Roy Morgan Research executive chairman Gary Morgan notes that the National Party now has its strongest lead since July. In contrast, the poor performance of Labour in November will be a concern for Opposition Leader Andrew Little heading into an election year. Labour has plunged to support of only 23% (down 3.5%) – its lowest support since late 2014.

A New Zealand Roy Morgan Poll on voting intention has found that support for the ruling National Party has fallen by 4.5 per cent to 41.5 per cent in September 2016, which is its lowest level since September 2013. The poll also shows that support for a potential Labour/Greens alliance has risen by 5.5 per cent to 45.5 per cent, while the NZ Roy Morgan Government Confidence Rating has fallen by 10.5 points to 117 points. Roy Morgan Research executive chairman Gary Morgan says that if the poll result were repeated at the 2017 election, NZ First leader Winston Peters would be in a position to determine the nation’s next government and prime minister, despite a slight fall in support for the party in the latest poll.

A New Zealand Roy Morgan Poll on voting intention has found that support for the ruling National Party has fallen by seven per cent to 46 per cent in August 2016. The poll also shows that support for a potential Labour/Greens alliance has risen by three per cent to 40 per cent, while the NZ Roy Morgan Government Confidence Rating has risen by 0.5 points to 127.5 points. Roy Morgan Research executive chairman Gary Morgan says that while the main focus during August was New Zealand’s performance at the Olympics, of more importance to the New Zealand economy and the Government’s future in particular was the decision by the Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ) to cut interest rates to a record low of two per cent, which suggests that the RBNZ sees a challenging period ahead before New Zealand heads to an election later next year.

Asked to consider what issues their government should be focusing on over the next couple of years, 90 per cent of New Zealanders rated "improving hospitals and the healthcare system" as one of the key priorities. Other health-related matters such as "more funding for health and medical research" and "increasing preventative healthcare funding and programmes" also featured among their top 10 concerns. This is just one of the many findings revealed in New Zealand Speaks, the inaugural report from New Zealanders for Health Research, which was conducted by Roy Morgan Research to chart the attitudes of New Zealanders to health and medical research. A New Zealand Roy Morgan Poll on voting intention has found that support for the ruling National Party has risen by three per cent to 45.5 per cent in May 2016. The poll also shows that support for a potential Labour/Greens alliance has risen by one per cent to 41.5 per cent, while the NZ Roy Morgan Government Confidence Rating has risen by three points to 130 points. Roy Morgan Research executive chairman Gary Morgan notes that despite support for New Zealand First falling by three per cent to 9.5 per cent (down from a 20-year high in April), support is still above what the party achieved at the 2014 election, and means it would still have the balance of power were an election held now.
