A report produced by Football Federation Australia (FFA) estimates that so-called "grassroots" soccer injects more than $A417m into the New South Wales (NSW) economy each year. FFA CEO David Gallop says this implies that grassroots soccer contributes more than $A1bn to the national economy each year. It is estimated that there are 291,000 registered soccer players in NSW, and more than 365,000 people in the state participate in the sport
