Fortescue Metals Group has appointed Felicity Gooding as the interim chief financial officer at its clean energy subsidiary, Fortescue Futures Industries. This follows Guy Debelle’s decision to step down as CFO; he took up the role in March following his retirement from the Reserve Bank of Australia, where he had been the deputy governor. Debelle is still recovering from injuries sustained in a bike accident in August, and says this means he cannot do justice to the role of CFO. He will instead join FFI’s board of directors.

An Australian subsidiary of Japan’s Mitsubishi claimed a $A1.22bn income tax deduction in 2009, which related to its acquisition of a coal tenement by the company’s joint venture with BHP Billiton in 2008. The Australian Taxation Office subsequently served Mitsubishi with a notice of amended assessment regarding the tax deduction. The tax dispute has yet to be resolved, although the ATO recently offered a settlement to Mitsubishi.

A survey carried out by Essential Research on behalf of COBA found that nearly 75 per cent of respondents said the banks fail to do so, while more than 50 per cent were not sure which bank owns sub-brands such as Bank of Melbourne or Bankwest
