Fox Corporation has agreed to an out-of-court settlement with Dominion Voting Systems regarding the latter’s $US1.6bn defamation case. The legal action centred on claims made by Fox News presenters that Dominion’s voting machines were used to manipulate the 2020 US presidential election. The parties reached a settlement shortly before the six-week jury trial was scheduled to begin. The terms of the $US787.5m ($1.17bn) settlement have not been disclosed. Fox Corp chairman Rupert Murdoch is amongst those who had been called to testify.

The ABC’s internal complaints department has found that "Fox and the Big Lie" did not breach the national broadcaster’s code of practice. The two-part Four Corners documentary examined how US cable network Fox News covered the 2020 presidential election. Fox News called for an external inquiry into the Four Corners story shortly after it had been broadcast, and the ABC is said to have provided Fox with a detailed response as to why its complaints had been dismissed. The ABC recently commissioned a review of its procedures for handling complaints, its first such review in 12 years.

The ABC’s big lie and the madness of Four Corners

Original article by James Madden, Adam Creighton
The Australian – Page: 1 & 9 : 24-Aug-21

Fox News has attacked the ABC over a two-part ‘Four Corners’ program called "The Big Lie". The program has been accused of being "error-ridden" and "conspiracy-laden", implying that the Rupert Murdoch-owned broadcaster played a part in Donald Trump’s refusal to accept defeat in the 2020 US presidential election, ignoring the fact that Trump attacked Fox’s coverage of the election campaign in more than 400 tweets. It is believed that the second part of the program will try to link Fox News to the attack on the US Capitol by Trump supporters on 6 January.
