Poll points to Labor win in Victoria

A Fairfax/Ipsos poll on voting intentions in Victoria has found that the Australian Labor Party has 56 per cent support on a two-party preferred basis, compared with 44 per cent for the Coalition. Labor’s primary vote has increased by two per cent to 37 per cent, while the Coalition’s has fallen by two per cent to 39 per cent. However, Liberal Party leader Denis Napthine has a 45 per cent rating as preferred premier, ahead of Labor leader Daniel Andrews on 36 per cent

The Heritage Council has granted Guy’s request for an interim protection order, which will prevent the current owner of the historic home from carrying out further demolition work. The Victorian Government has been criticised over advertisements that promote its commitment to creating 200,000 jobs if it wins the 2014 state election. The County Court of Victoria is set to hear an unfair dismissal claim by ex-freedom of information officer Don Coulson. He was terminated a week after Premier Denis Napthine took office, and was then denied $A30,000 in severance pay due to pornography being found on a data storage device in his office. Coulson claims this was due to a ring of Coalition MPs swapping such material. Napthine has rejected the allegations as coming from a disgruntled ex-employee

Labor pledge to boost jobs and reduce payroll tax

A special SMS Morgan Poll on State voting intention has found that Dennis Napthine has a narrow lead as preferred Premier of Victoria, but the Australian Labor Party (54 per cent) leads the Coalition on a two-party preferred basis. In New South Wales, Premier Mike Baird has a 41 per cent lead over Opposition Leader John Robertson, while the Coalition has 53 per cent support on a two-party preferred basis. Labor to honour Crown’s new deal

The Australian Labor Party will not oppose the Victorian Government’s new deal with Crown Resorts. The deal will extend the casino’s licence to 2050 and bring the government an extra $A910 million in tax.
