An SMS Morgan Poll on state voting intention ahead of the 2014 Victorian election has found that support for the Australian Labor Party on a two-party preferred basis has risen by one per cent to 53.5 per cent. The poll, which was carried out from 7-10 November, also shows that support for the Coalition has fallen by one per cent to 46.5 per cent. Data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics shows that the unemployment rate in Victoria was 6.8 per cent in October 2014. It has remained at around this level for the last four months, and compares with a national jobless rate of 6.2 per cent. The jobs data presents a challenge for the State Government ahead of the election on 29 November. The state’s unemployment rate was just 4.9 per when the Coalition was elected in 2010

A Fairfax/Ipsos poll on voting intentions in Victoria has found that the Australian Labor Party has 56 per cent support on a two-party preferred basis, compared with 44 per cent for the Coalition. Labor’s primary vote has increased by two per cent to 37 per cent, while the Coalition’s has fallen by two per cent to 39 per cent.
