Deloitte Access Economics states in its tourism and hotel market outlook that the number of international visitors rose by 10 per cent in 2015. Meanwhile, visitor spending has increased by 17.9 per cent over the past five years. The firm forecasts an annual average growth of 6.2 per cent in international visitors over the next three years.

Sydney Airport passenger growth predicted to lag

Moody’s says Brisbane and Melbourne airports are best placed to benefit from stronger international growth, while the international passenger growth rate at Sydney has fallen behind forecasts. It remains Australia’s main international gateway, but Melbourne and Brisbane are experiencing better growth rates because of new services to those airports. Moody’s says airports with a greater reliance on domestic travellers, such as Perth and Adelaide, face a more challenging outlook in passenger volume trends.

New data shows that Western Australia is enjoying a boom in international visitors. The number of overseas tourists travelling to the state rose by 7.5 per cent to 807,000 in the 12 months to September 2014. There was particularly strong growth in visitor numbers from Britain and Singapore. Meanwhile, more West Australians are also opting to holiday in their own state

A survey by Tourism Research Australia shows that there was an eight per cent increase in international visitors to the nation in 2013-14. The 6.1 million international visitors spent a record $A30.1bn during their time in Australia, which is seven per cent higher than previously.
