An unnamed risk manager at Westpac has claimed that he was bullied and ignored after he voiced concerns about deficiencies in regard to a technology project. He has reported the matter to WorkSafe New South Wales and the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority. The risk manager says his performance reviews appeared to have suffered as a result of his raising concerns about the technology project, and that his treatment was evidence of a poor risk culture at Westpac.

Harmers Workplace Lawyers is taking legal action against KPMG and three of its senior executives on behalf of former associate director James Eldridge. KPMG has been accused of taking adverse action against Eldridge; he was dismissed as a result of complaints he made about KPMG’s review of the Australian Bureau of Statistics’ IT systems following the flawed 2016 census. Eldridge is said to have told KPMG that he felt that the review was not accurate or independent. KPMG has denied his allegations, and has stated that his dismissal was for "appropriate reasons".

New KPMG chairwoman Alison Kitchen has urged corporate Australia to be more proactive when it comes to condemning bad behaviour within its ranks. Kitchen says companies should not wait for whistleblowers to disclose their problems, and that the community is tired of businesses not being prepared to own up to their mistakes. She says that if companies were willing to admit they had problems and had taken steps to fix them, that this might help to restore a level of community trust in the business sector.

Whistleblowing is as simple as filling in an online questionnaire with Fraudsec, the idea of a technology start-up founded by Sylvain Mansotte, the key whistleblower in a fraud case at Leighton Contractors in 2013. His system, which allows a whistleblower to anonymously create a report and attach files, is being trialled by several major organisations. The New South Wales Department of Education has also made inquiries about modifying it to combat bullying in schools.
