Struggling dairy producer Murray Goulburn is due to close a milk processing plant at Edith Creek in Tasmania on 30 November. However, staff there have agreed to forgo around 20 per cent of their take-home wages if another company agrees to acquire the factory and keep it open. TasAsia Dairy is interested in acquiring the plant, and National Union of Workers’ official Neil Smith says it, the NWU and the plant’s more than 100 workers have entered into a preliminary agreement that would see it remain open.
