The Federal Government will follow the lead of its US counterpart in legislating to curb the influence of foreign lobbyists on Australian politics and society. Overseas-based media outlets are also expected to be subject to the new regulations, which are likely to be based on the Foreign Agents Registration Act in the US. The legislation will be introduced in the current session of parliament, and will include a ban on foreign donations to political parties.
