The latest Household, Income and Labour Dynamics in Australia (HILDA) survey reveals mean household income only rose by 2.4 per cent between 2009 and 2016. It found that more women held a university degree than men in 2016, but that in households with married couples that have children, women do 65 per cent of the housework but only 29 per cent of the paid work. The gap between male and female pay has only narrowed slightly between 2001 and 2016, while 68 per cent of people who become unemployed find new employment within a year.
