The World Trade Organisation has criticised Australia’s anti-dumping policies in a new report. The WTO claims Australia was the third most active member country in 2017 in terms of imposing anti-dumping measures and the fourth most active in initiating anti-dumping investigations. Trade Minister Steven Ciobo will tell the Committee for Economic Development of Australia on 31 July that Australia has resisted giving into the "siren song of protectionism", while trade expert Alan Oxley contends most of Australia’s anti-dumping measures are aimed at trying to protect the local steel sector.
