A multi-mode Morgan Poll on Federal voting intention has found that support for the Coalition on a two-party preferred basis has risen by three per cent to 47 per cent. The poll, which was carried out on the weekends of 28-29 March and 3-6 April 2015, also shows that support for the Australian Labor Party has fallen by three per cent to 53 per cent. Roy Morgan Research executive chairman Gary Morgan says labour market deregulation is needed to stimulate the economy and enable the 2.5 million Australians who are unemployed and under-employed to get jobs

A Roy Morgan telephone survey has found that 40 per cent of New Zealanders aged 14+ regard economic issues as the most important problem facing the nation. This is followed by government/public policy and human rights issues (26 per cent) and social issues (15 per cent). The survey, which was carried in March 2015, also shows that 41 per cent of New Zealanders rate war and terrorism as the biggest problem facing the world, followed by economic issues (25 per cent)

A Roy Morgan Single Source survey has found that 10 per cent of New Zealanders aged 18+ reported experiencing depression at some point in the past year. This compares with just six per cent of those who regularly play a team sport. The survey, which was carried out in the two years to December 2014, also shows that some nine per cent of New Zealanders overall suffered from anxiety, well above the six per cent of regular team sport players. A Roy Morgan Single Source survey has found that 4.5 per cent of Australians aged 14+ attended a sporting event on their most recent domestic holiday. The survey also shows that 12.8 per cent of domestic travellers to Melbourne attended at least one spectator sporting event in the two years to December 2014, ahead of Adelaide (8.5 per cent) and Darwin (6.7 per cent). Sports tourists are also 76 per cent more likely to go to nightclubs or bars and 42 per cent more likely to go shopping than the average holiday-maker

A Roy Morgan Single Source survey has found that some 2,378,000 Australians aged 14+ are planning to buy a new car in the next four years, which is 129,000 more than in February 2015, and up on the same time in 2014. The survey also shows that 598,000 motorists intend to buy a new car in the next 12 months, compared with 537,000 in February and slightly more than the same time in 2014

A Roy Morgan Single Source survey has found that 65 per cent of Australians aged 18+ ate chocolate at least once in an average four-week period in the year to December 2014. The survey also shows that across different Body Mass Indexes, the proportion of chocolate-eaters varies only slightly: 64 per cent of underweight adults, 64 per cent of those whose weight is acceptable and 65 per cent of overweight adults eat chocolate in an average four weeks. ANZ-Roy Morgan Consumer Confidence: Low Confidence Needs a Boost

The ANZ-Roy Morgan Consumer Confidence rating for Australia rose by 0.8 per cent to 112.3 in the week ended 29 March 2015, its third consecutive rise. While consumer confidence is now 2.3 per cent off its February lows, it remains below its long-run average. The sub-index for confidence in the economic outlook over the next year rose by one per cent, while confidence in the economic outlook over the next five years rose by 3.1 per cent. These indices are now 4.6 per cent and 4.5 per cent higher respectively since the February interest rate cut

Destination Asia: Asian-born Aussies’ holiday preferences

A Roy Morgan Single Source survey has found that 47 per cent of Australians aged +14 who were born in Asia would like to go on a holiday in an Asian country in the next two years, compared with just 22 per cent of Australians overall. Japan (13 per cent), Singapore (12 per cent) and India (11 per cent) rate particularly highly as preferred holiday destinations among Asian-born Australians. The US/Canada (29 per cent) are the highest-rating non-Asian destinations that are preferred by Asian-born Australians

A Roy Morgan Single Source survey has found that 4.8 per cent of Australians aged +14 regularly or occasionally go skiing or snowboarding. The survey, which was carried out in the year to December 2014, also shows that 46 per cent of skiers/snowboarders say they would like to visit at least one of Australia’s snow areas within the next two years. Some 30 per cent would like to visit Snowfield/High Country destinations in New South Wales, ahead of such destinations in Victoria (19 per cent). Meanwhile, 53 per cent of skiers/snowboarders in NSW/ACT and 47 per cent of those in Victoria cite a home-state destination

A Roy Morgan Single Source survey has found that 12 per cent of Australian households have a swimming pool. The survey, which was carried out in the year to December 2014, also shows that 18 per cent of households in Perth have their own swimming pool, while pool ownership in Sydney (16%) and Brisbane (15%) is also above the national average. Meanwhile, just over 15% of Australian households with kids aged 6-11 have a pool, a figure that jumps to just over 20% for homes with children aged 12-15
