A Roy Morgan Single Source survey shows that 84.8% of New Zealanders bought or ate take away food in the year to March 2018. The survey also shows that 33.2% of New Zealanders visit or purchase from McDonald’s in an average four weeks, ahead of KFC (17.7%) and Domino’s Pizza (15%). Analysing the leading fast food outlets by generation shows that 80.8% of Generation X and 77.3% of Millennials visit or purchase fast food in an average four weeks. This is substantially more than either Baby Boomers (68.1%), Generation Z (66.1%) or Pre-Boomers (54.1%).

Vegetarianism on the rise in New Zealand

A Roy Morgan Single Source survey has found that 10.3 per cent of New Zealanders aged 14+ said that the food they eat is all, or almost all, vegetarian in the year to June 2015. This compares with 8.1 per cent in the year to June 2011. While the incidence of vegetarianism is up across all major demographic segments, the strongest growth has been among men (up 63 per cent, from 5.7 per cent to 9.3 per cent), 14-24 year-olds (up 55 per cent, from 8.6 per cent to 13.3 per cent), and 25-34 year-olds (up 45 per cent, from 9.5 per cent to 13.8 per cent).

In New Zealand, internet use is now more popular than newspapers and television at breakfast, but radio is still on top

A Roy Morgan Single Source survey has found that 29.7% per cent of New Zealanders aged 14+ used the internet at breakfast time on a normal weekday in the year to June 2015. This compares with 13.2 per cent in the year to June 2011. The survey also shows that the proportion of New Zealanders who read a newspaper on weekday mornings has remained steady at 23.3 per cent, but the proportion who watch TV at breakfast time has declined from 24.3 per cent to 20.7 per cent. Meanwhile, 40.2 per cent of New Zealanders now listen to radio at breakfast, up from an average of 37.3 per cent over the previous three years.

Pup culture and crazy cat people: pet ownership in NZ

A Roy Morgan Single Source survey has found that 2.1 million New Zealanders aged 14+ (or 58 per cent) have at least one cat and/or dog, and 330,000 pay for pet care services in an average month. Some 45 per cent of New Zealanders have a pet cat, while 31 per cent have a pet dog, while 18 per cent have at least one cat and one dog. The survey, which was carried out in the year to October 2014, also shows that 50 per cent of residents in Auckland and Wellington own a cat and/or a dog.

Cola is king in Australia, New Zealand and Indonesia

A Roy Morgan Single Source survey has found that cola beverages feature heavily among the most popular soft drinks in Australia, New Zealand and Indonesia. Coca-Cola is consumed by 19 per cent of Australians aged 14+ in an average seven days, followed by Coke Zero (8 per cent) and Diet Coke (5 per cent). Meanwhile, 25 per cent of New Zealanders aged 14+ drink Coca-Cola in an average seven days, ahead of Sprite (12 per cent) and Coke Zero (10 per cent). Some 14 per cent of Indonesians aged 14+ drink Big Cola in an average seven-day period, ahead of Fanta (just over 12 per cent), and Coca Cola (almost 12 per cent)
