The ANZ-Roy Morgan New Zealand Consumer Confidence Index has fallen from 118.9 to 118.2 in July 2016. However, it is holding in at levels of elevation, and in line with its historical average. In seasonally adjusted terms confidence rose from 118 to 119, the second monthly rise in a row. The Current Conditions and Future Conditions indices were both down by a small amount, but they were up marginally in seasonally adjusted terms.

Roy Morgan Research has announced the winners of its fifth annual Customer Satisfaction Awards for New Zealand. On 27 June 2016, CEO Michele Levine presented 21 awards to businesses that topped their respective categories by delivering outstanding levels of customer satisfaction, as judged by more than 13,000 consumers throughout the year. The award categories cover sectors such as financial services, automotive, travel, retail, telecommunications and utilities.

State of the Nation: New Zealand – media, technology and wanting it all ‘on demand’

Roy Morgan Research CEO Michele Levine has presented the latest New Zealand State of the Nation in Auckland, with a special Spotlight on Media, Technology and the rise of ‘On Demand’. Amongst other things, the report shows that 76 per cent of New Zealanders now have a smartphone, while 40 per cent of smartphone owners say they ‘can’t live without’ their mobile phone. Meanwhile, 83 per cent of New Zealanders access one or more types of content ‘on demand’, including news websites, streaming video or audio, and the catch-up sites of TV networks. Some 24 per cent of New Zealanders have access to at least one subscription video-on-demand service.

The ANZ-Roy Morgan New Zealand Consumer Confidence Index has fallen by four points to 116.2 in May 2016. In seasonally adjusted terms confidence eased from 117 to 115. The Current Conditions Index fell by four points to 119.3 and the Future Conditions Index fell by three points to 114.3.

The Current Conditions Index dipped three points to 120.8, and the Future Conditions Index fell from 116.7 to 116.2.

Roy Morgan Readership results for New Zealand Newspapers and Magazines in 2015

Roy Morgan Research has released its New Zealand Print Readership results for Newspapers and Magazines in the 12 months to December 2015. The "New Zealand Herald" remains the country’s most-read daily newspaper, with 549,000 readers per average issue (down 10.9 per cent compared with 2014). "AA Directions" remains the most-read magazine, with 554,000 readers per average issue (up 8.6 per cent), while "New Zealand Woman’s Day" is the most popular title on newsstands (up 5.2 per cent to 406,000 readers per average issue).

In New Zealand, internet use is now more popular than newspapers and television at breakfast, but radio is still on top

A Roy Morgan Single Source survey has found that 29.7% per cent of New Zealanders aged 14+ used the internet at breakfast time on a normal weekday in the year to June 2015. This compares with 13.2 per cent in the year to June 2011. The survey also shows that the proportion of New Zealanders who read a newspaper on weekday mornings has remained steady at 23.3 per cent, but the proportion who watch TV at breakfast time has declined from 24.3 per cent to 20.7 per cent. Meanwhile, 40.2 per cent of New Zealanders now listen to radio at breakfast, up from an average of 37.3 per cent over the previous three years.

The ANZ-Roy Morgan New Zealand Consumer Confidence Index has fallen by four points to 118.7 in December 2015, easing off November’s six-month high. The Current Conditions Index has fallen by one point to 122.1, while the Future Conditions Index has fallen by six points to 116.3. Meanwhile, the number of New Zealanders who believe that they are financially better off compared with 12 months ago has fallen by three per cent to six per cent.

Kiwis almost three times more likely than Aussies to watch Rugby World Cup on TV

A Roy Morgan Single Source survey has found that 7.4 per cent of Australians aged 14+ almost always watch Rugby World Cup matches on TV and another 6.8 per cent watch occasionally. The survey, which was carried out in the year to June 2015, also shows that 27.9 per cent of New Zealanders aged 14+ almost always watch Rugby World Cup matches on TV, with an additional 12.2 per cent tuning in occasionally. In both Australia and New Zealand, 45 per cent of Rugby World Cup viewers are aged 50+ and only 27 per cent are aged 14-to 34.
