Rugby viewership more than double Rugby League in NZ

A Roy Morgan Single Source survey has found that 43.6% of New Zealanders aged 14+ (almost 1.7 million people) watched Rugby on TV in the year to June. Viewership of Rugby Union far outstrips the other major football codes, and is more than double the viewership of either Rugby League or Soccer. A total of 837,000 New Zealanders (21.5%) watch Rugby League on TV, including the NRL and other Rugby League matches, and 587,000 (15.1%) watch Soccer including the FIFA World Cup, the A-League and other Soccer matches including the English Premier League and local leagues. Rugby Union Internationals, which feature the New Zealand national team the All Blacks, are the most popular form of Rugby watched by nearly 1.34 million New Zealanders (34.3%), slightly ahead of the Rugby World Cup, watched by 1.26 million New Zealanders (32.4%). Super Rugby is watched by nearly 1.2 million New Zealanders (30.6%), while a further 880,000 New Zealanders (22.6%) watch the local Mitre 10 Cup in New Zealand.

In New Zealand, internet use is now more popular than newspapers and television at breakfast, but radio is still on top

A Roy Morgan Single Source survey has found that 29.7% per cent of New Zealanders aged 14+ used the internet at breakfast time on a normal weekday in the year to June 2015. This compares with 13.2 per cent in the year to June 2011. The survey also shows that the proportion of New Zealanders who read a newspaper on weekday mornings has remained steady at 23.3 per cent, but the proportion who watch TV at breakfast time has declined from 24.3 per cent to 20.7 per cent. Meanwhile, 40.2 per cent of New Zealanders now listen to radio at breakfast, up from an average of 37.3 per cent over the previous three years.

Kiwis almost three times more likely than Aussies to watch Rugby World Cup on TV

A Roy Morgan Single Source survey has found that 7.4 per cent of Australians aged 14+ almost always watch Rugby World Cup matches on TV and another 6.8 per cent watch occasionally. The survey, which was carried out in the year to June 2015, also shows that 27.9 per cent of New Zealanders aged 14+ almost always watch Rugby World Cup matches on TV, with an additional 12.2 per cent tuning in occasionally. In both Australia and New Zealand, 45 per cent of Rugby World Cup viewers are aged 50+ and only 27 per cent are aged 14-to 34.
