Victoria Police announced on 27 July that they would re-open investigations into Labor’s alleged misuse of public funds. The Ombudsman found in a report released in March that Labor had used $388,000 in taxpayer funds to pay part-time electoral officers to conduct political campaigning, an act in breach of parliamentary rules. Opposition leader Matthew Guy claims the six ministers that were named in the report should step down until the police investigation is completed. Deputy Premier James Merlino has now made similar allegations against 18 current and former opposition members, and has asked Victoria Police to investigate them also.
