The annual Roy Morgan Customer Satisfaction Awards were awarded in early April, and there were several familiar faces in the automotive and airline winner’s circle. Car Manufacturer of the Year Skoda won a second straight Annual Customer Satisfaction Award. Skoda performed exceptionally well during 2023 by winning 10 monthly awards with an average customer satisfaction of 97.1% – a record high for the category and the second highest for any company. Kia was a first-time winner of the Major Car Manufacturer of the Year; Kia took home five monthly awards to edge out rivals Subaru and Mitsubishi for the overall title, with average customer satisfaction of 91.9%. Meanwhile, Singapore Airlines won the International Airline of the Year award for a fourth straight year (2018, 2019, 2022 & 2023 – the award was not held during the pandemic-impacted years of 2020 and 2021). Virgin Australia won all 12 monthly awards to win the Domestic Airline of the Year for the first time in a decade, and Qantas won the Domestic Business Airline of the Year for the first time since 2020.

Aussie Broadband wins the Best of the Best Award for Customer Satisfaction for the first time

Telecommunications group Aussie Broadband has won the Roy Morgan ‘Best of the Best’ Customer Satisfaction Award for the first time, just ahead of car manufacturer Skoda, liquor store chain Dan Murphy’s and supermarket chain ALDI. The ‘Best of the Best’ award goes to the company that achieved the highest customer satisfaction of all 38 winners in the Annual Roy Morgan Customer Satisfaction Awards for 2023. Aussie Broadband enjoyed a stellar year, winning not only the Mobile Phone Service Provider of the year award for the first time but also the Internet Service Provider of the Year award for a third time. Aussie Broadband had customer satisfaction of an exceptional 97.5% in 2023 to beat Car Manufacturer of the Year Skoda by the barest of margins.

Roy Morgan has announced the winners of its annual Customer Satisfaction Awards for 2023. The awards recognise outstanding levels of customer satisfaction, as judged by more than 60,000 consumers via the Roy Morgan Single Source survey. The award categories cover sectors such as banking, insurance, superannuation, automotive, retail, telecommunications and utilities. Of the 38 award winners this year, 22 are repeat winners backing up from a victory a year ago. The repeat winners include 13 with a perfect record of 12 monthly wins; there were also seven first-time winners, and four companies returned to the winner’s circle this year after missing out a year ago. Roy Morgan CEO Michele Levine says the Annual Customer Satisfaction Awards are the gold standard in identifying those companies and brands that stay ahead of the pack by knowing what their customers want and delivering it consistently.

Roy Morgan has presented the annual Roy Morgan Trusted Brand Awards for 2023 in the mining and petroleum, automotive, utilities, food and beverage, and travel and tourism industries. Fortescue Metals Group is the most trusted brand among a field of over 20 of the most prominent mining and petroleum companies; it was the sole entrant in the category to emerge with a positive net trust rating in the 12 months to June 2023. Toyota has topped the industry rankings as the most trusted brand in automotive since Roy Morgan began interviewing Australians about trust and distrust in 2018. The hotly contested utilities category has been won by Perth-based Synergy; it overtook Melbourne-based Red Energy, who were the ‘Most Trusted Utility Brand’ since Roy Morgan began surveying on trust and distrust five years ago. In the Food & Beverage category Cadbury has emerged as the most trusted brand for the second year ahead of more than 80 rival brands. Virgin Australia emerged as the only trusted brand in the Travel & Tourism sector for 2023, taking the title of ‘Most Trusted Travel & Tourism Brand’ from rival Qantas.

First time winner Vaya wins the Best of the Best Award for Customer Satisfaction

Mobile phone service provider Vaya has won the Roy Morgan Customer Satisfaction ‘Best of the Best’ Award for the first time, just ahead of supermarket chain Aldi and liquor store chain Dan Murphy’s. The ‘Best of the Best’ award goes to the company that achieved the highest customer satisfaction of all 40 winners in the Annual Roy Morgan Customer Satisfaction Awards. Vaya is the first mobile phone service provider to win the prestigious award. The victory for Vaya was built on the back of eight straight monthly victories in the Mobile Phone Service Provider of the Year category from January to August 2022. Vaya had customer satisfaction of 96.3% in 2022 to beat Supermarket of the Year Aldi by the barest of margins.

The annual Roy Morgan Customer Satisfaction Awards were awarded in locked down Melbourne in early June. As usual, the awards in the retail category went to a mix of first timers and veterans. Among those enjoying their moment in the customer satisfaction spotlight for the first time were Schnitz as the Quick Service Restaurant of the Year with six monthly customer satisfaction awards and Chemist Warehouse as Chemist/Pharmacy of the Year. There were seven repeat winners led by Myer as Department Store of the Year for a sixth straight year, Bunnings Warehouse as Hardware Store of the Year for a fourth year in a row, Rebel as Sports Store of the Year for the sixth consecutive year and perhaps most impressively of all The Reject Shop confirming its dominance in the field as the Discount Variety Store of the Year for the ninth year running (2012-2020). First Choice Liquor (Liquor Store of the Year), The Athlete’s Foot (Shoe Store of the Year) and Subway (Major Quick Service Restaurant of the Year) all built on their victories in 2019 to complete back-to-back victories in their respective categories for the first time.

Roy Morgan’s Annual Customer Satisfaction Awards have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, but after rigorous examination of the data recorded from Australians during 2020 we are able to announce the deserving winners who have excelled with high customer satisfaction ratings despite the challenges of the pandemic. Nineteen of the 40 award winners are repeat winners backing up from a victory a year ago, while there are 21 new winners. Respondents name the companies they deal with in various categories across more than 30 industries, and rate how satisfied they are with them. Monthly Customer Satisfaction winners are cited in each category throughout the year, with the annual award going to the company with the most wins. Several companies scored a clean sweep of 12 monthly victories during 2020, including first-time winners Aussie Broadband and Health Partners, as well as back-to-back 2019 & 2020 winners Myer, The Reject Shop, Powershop, Bunnings Warehouse, Rebel, RAC and Defence Health. Costco also returned to the winners’ circle with an unblemished record in 2020 after last winning the annual award in 2017. The data that determines who wins comes from Roy Morgan’s Single Source survey, compiled from in-depth interviews with over 50,000 consumers from all around Australia.

Isuzu UTE wins Best of the Best Award

Vehicle manufacturer Isuzu UTE has been named the winner of the Roy Morgan Customer Satisfaction Award – ‘Best of the Best’ – taking the mantle from fellow car manufacturer Lexus. The ‘Best of the Best’ award goes to the company that achieved the highest customer satisfaction of all 40 winners in the Annual Roy Morgan Customer Satisfaction Awards. Isuzu UTE also won the prestigious ‘Best of the Best’ Award in 2018 and their victory this year was built on the back of seven monthly victories in the Car Manufacturer of the Year category, including six wins in a row from March to August 2020. Isuzu UTE came out just on top of 2019 winner Lexus (five monthly victories) Other car manufacturers to perform exceptionally well in 2020 included Toyota, Mercedes-Benz and Suzuki. Isuzu UTE averaged customer satisfaction of an exceptional 94.92% in 2020 to beat Liquor Store of the Year First Choice Liquor by the barest of margins in second place on an average of 94.88%.
