More than 26,000 vacancies have been listed on the federal government’s new Jobs Hub website, and this is expected to top 50,000 in the next week. The site features employment opportunities across a range of industries. The launch of Jobs Hub has coincided with the release of official data showing that the number of job vacancies nationwide fell by 0.1 per cent in February and 2.2 per cent year-on-year. Meanwhile, Westpac now expects the unemployment rate to peak at nine per cent – rather than its previous forecast of 17 per cent – due to the government’s wage subsidy scheme.

‘China’s a sovereign country’: PM unfazed by ABC censoring

Original article by
The New Daily – Page: Online : 3-Sep-18

China has cut off access to the ABC’s website and its apps, claiming that they have breached its internet rules and regulations. Access to the website and apps was cut off on 22 August, the day after the federal government announced it would prevent two Chinese firms from taking part in the roll-out of Australia’s 5G mobile network. However, sources within the Chinese government suggest it is unlikely the two events are linked. Prime Minister Scott Morrison said he was not bothered by China’s censorship of the ABC.

HBF has estimated that comparison websites received more than $A150m in commissions from private health insurers in 2016-17. HBF CEO John Van Der Wielen believes that the cost of using comparison websites is contributing to a rise in health insurance premiums. The not-for-profit fund will cease marketing its products via comparison websites. The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission’s deputy chair Delia Rickard says many consumers may not be aware that health insurers pay commissions to attract new customers.

Market Research Update – Page: Online : 6-Apr-18

The Roy Morgan Travel Agent Monitor Market Indicator Report reveals that tripadvisor.com.au is the number one website for Australians to visit when planning a holiday, with 15.7% of Australians aged 14+ visiting the website in an average four weeks. Booking.com and Qantas are the second and third-ranked travel websites in terms of visitations in an average four weeks, at 13.6% and 13.5% respectively. The Travel Agent Monitor Report also reveals that while online may be increasing as the dominant information source used for planning overseas and domestic trips, when it comes to booking trips overseas most Australians still choose to use a travel agent instead of a website. Some 42.5% of Australians aged 14+ used a travel agent to book their last overseas trip in the 12 months to December, while 15.5% used a travel booking website.

US firm Diversified Communications has acquired Mumbrella for an undisclosed amount. Tim Burrowes, who co-founded the marketing and media website in 2008, said he planned to continue in his role as content director, and that the price that Diversified Communications had paid for Mumbrella was "good", but not enough to take early retirement on. Mumbrella generated revenue of $A7 million in 2016-17, allowing it to make its first $A1 million profit, and it is believed Diversified Communications paid around $A8 million for it. Mumbrella makes most of its money from trade shows, and Burrowes says Diversified Communication’s ownership of it will help it to grow that side of its business.
