Ride-sharing firm GoCatch is seeking to list on the Australian sharemarket in June, and hopes to raise up to $A5 million via an IPO. This is in addition to $A1 million in pre-IPO funds that it aims to raise by the end of March. Backers of GoCatch include fund manager David Paradice. Uber soars and well-placed to tackle rising competition

Original article by Roy Morgan
Market Research Update – Page: Online : 18-Dec-17

A Roy Morgan Single Source survey has found that nearly 3.7 million Australians 14+ (18.4% of the population) travelled by Uber in the last three months. The strongest percentage growth of Uber users since 2015 has been among those aged 35+, although all age groups have experienced incredible growth. However, 58.7% of Uber users are still aged under 35 – either 14-24 (25.1%) or 25-34 (33.6%) with a further 23.4% aged 35-49 and 17.9% aged 50+. These proportions represent a significant percentage change from 2015, when over three-quarters of Uber travellers were aged under 35. Meanwhile, the growth of Uber, and the entry of new ride-hailing apps, has had a definite impact on the level of taxi patronage around Australia, although Western Australia is the only State in which more residents have travelled by Uber in the last three months (23.9%) than via a taxi (19.6%) – also the lowest rate of taxi patronage in the nation.

The NewsCar app, which will be launched in Sydney in late April 2017, allows motorists to be paid for supplying free-to-air TV networks with live video from the scene of breaking news events. The app enables TV networks to identify motorists who are close to the scene and direct them to record "first response" video on their mobile phone in return for instant payment. Members of the Ride Share Drivers Association of Australia will be given priority in allocating first response assignments.

Market Research Update – Page: Online : 29-Mar-17

Roy Morgan Research CEO Michele Levine has presented the latest State of the Nation Report in Melbourne with a special Spotlight on the Australian Automotive Industry. The State of the Nation Report looks at the changes underway in the Australian automotive industry and the even bigger changes that are set to impact on every part of the industry throughout the 2020s. 2025 has been identified as a tipping point for the industry as a whole as it faces digital disruption – any automotive players that fail to plan fully for the future involving increased car-sharing, driverless cars, and purely online sales will find it far too hard to catch up to "first-movers" by the time 2025 rolls around.

A Roy Morgan Single Source survey has found that eight per cent of Australians aged 14+ with a Vodafone mobile service have travelled by Uber in the last three months, just ahead of the seven per cent of Optus or Virgin mobile customers. The survey, which was carried out in the six months to December 2015, also shows that only four per cent of Telstra’s mobile users travel by Uber. Meanwhile, Uber travellers made around 3.7 trips each with the service in the last three months, which is equivalent to an estimated 7.3 million passengers from July to December 2015. Optus mobile customers accounted for around 2.3 million of these passenger trips, while Telstra mobile customers made an estimated 1.8 million passenger trips.
